Why choose a wheat pack over other products?
The wheat grain offers excellent natural insulation of heat and cold – without the need for dangerous hot water or gels that may cause burns if released, making it a much safer and environmentally friendly alternative.
How should I use my wheat bag?
As a heat pack we recommend heating in the microwave for 2-4 minutes, since microwaves vary in power output it is recommended that you start at the lowest time and increase time by 30 second increments until 4 minutes is reached – we do not recommend heating the pack over 4 minutes as this may cause the wheat to burn and emit an unpleasant odour (if this occurs, the wheat pack needs to be discarded and replaced). Overheated wheat may also cause damage to the bag. To keep the wheat from drying out over time, occasionally mist the bag using a water spray bottle before microwaving. Always use a clean microwave with a freely rotating turn table – if the turn table does not rotate, microwave energy will be focused on a single area of the bag and cause damage through overheating.
As a cold compress we recommend placing wheat bag in an airtight Ziploc bag and freezing for a few hours prior to use.
How do I store my wheat pack?
Wheat being a food grain is naturally prone to attract weevils. When not in use for prolonged periods of time it is recommended to store the wheat bag in an airtight plastic bag in a freezer.
Can I wash my wheat pack?
No. Because wheat is a food grain, once it is immersed in water it will soak up the water and sprout. You may wipe it with a damp cloth if necessary.
When should I replace my wheat pack?
Once it begins to emit an unpleasant charred odour – this is a sure sign that it needs to be replaced. Unfortunately it is often because the wheat pack has been left too long in the microwave. Over time wheat loses its moisture and needs an occasional misting to rehydrate. If our usage and care guidelines are followed, personal usage can last years.
